Dr Peter Phillips formed a lifelong friendship beginning in 1976 with his mentor Denis Condon, and through this friendship he “caught the piano roll bug”. Peter is a pioneer in digitising piano rolls, and he digitised the entire Condon piano roll collection before it went to Stanford University in 2014. He has given recitals in venues locally and around the world from his extensive library of MIDI files of reproducing piano rolls. He recently worked with the Sydney and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestras accompanying Gershwin’s Duo-Art piano roll recordings of Rhapsody In Blue played on a Yamaha CFX Disklavier. He is presently involved with researchers from a range of institutions including Stanford and Bern Universities. Peter completed his Musicology PhD in 2017.
